project

I wanted to add thumbnails to my main page and as you probably know I couldn’t just rip photos from the internet due to copyright laws. A long time ago, I wanted to create generative art using Python. I developed a simple program to create the thumbnails you currently see. You may have noticed, that they are in fact, animated .webp files. Stare at this long enough and you will see it moves.

The image generation is very simple, it’s just a background gradient. I usually choose a light color and a similar darker color. Then, there are several “blobs” added on top, you can adjust their opacity, color, position and shape. This left me with static images, they look good, but I thought they were the right kind of image to animate.

To animate the image I defined a starting and final point for the blobs, with a speed factor the program then generates each frame and compiles it into an .mp4 or .webp file.
